  1. Overview of Module

This module will comprise of three components aiming at:

  1. Understanding literature in its psychological, artistic, social and historical contexts.
  2. Understanding the principles of Indian literary theory.
  3. Structural components of various forms of literature.

NB: Please refer to your Hindi Programme of Studies for detailed contents.

In Semester I, we shall study the following:

  • साहित्य की परिभाषा/काव्य लक्षण/काव्य हेतु/काव्य प्रयोजन
  • साहित्य और समाज का अंतर्संबंध
  • साहित्य तथा अन्य कलाओं का संबंध
  • आलोचना का स्वरूप
  • शब्द-शक्ति: लक्षण और प्रमुख भेद
  • काव्य गुण & काव्य दोष

Procedure

 

  • Everyone is expected to prepare the topics mentioned in the Module map well beforehand. This will enhance a motivating atmosphere for her as well as for the lecturer while lecture will be delivered. So, prepare your work well. I am expecting the class to frequently interact and ask questions!
  • Anyone may be chosen for an Individual Exposé not exceeding 5 mins and this will be counted in his/her continuous assessment marks. So, emphasise on thestyleof your presentation, clarity of language, content, originality, and interaction with the class among others.
  • I advise you all to regularly check your e-mails + your academic web-blog as I will provide you with additional material from time to time. Also, you are free to interact via mails.
  • All lectures will normally be held in Room No. 28 on Fridays from 09h30 to 11h00.
  1. Course Objectives
  • To provide opportunities for the reinforcement of language competence.
  • To provide opportunities for knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the literary heritage of Hindi language.
  • To equip the student with the pedagogy of the language.

5. Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module, the student will be able to:

  • Understand the emergence & development of Hindi through various genres
  • Be familiar with Indian as well as Western Literary Theories
  • Be aware of the importance of Alankar, Ras, Chand, literature etc
  • Better understand the various forms of literature
  • Critically analyse any genre of literature
